St. Matthew 19:14 – “Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
Safe Haven/CACE
The Safe Haven ministry is in partnership with the Chicago Public Schools and provides After School, Spring Break, and Summer Camp programs for primary and secondary school children. We have developed relationships with neighborhood schools and the surrounding community to offer safe passage, tutoring and social-emotional support centering around conflict resolution and solving social problems.
There is also a variety of activities including games, arts and crafts, sports, and instruction in music , chess and the basics of computer programming. The aim of this program is to provide a safe space, nutritious meals, and to help promote continued success in school, along with fun activities. The program is free for all Chicago Public School students.
The Center for Academic and Cultural Enrichment (CACE) was birthed (2010) in response to the city of Chicago’s high dropout rate and the increased rates of incarceration among communities of color. CACE seeks to assist in dismantling the system of carceral injustice by focusing on literacy at the primary and secondary school levels. This program is in partnership with the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church One Church One School.
Safe Haven Summer Program culminates with a trip to Restoration Camp and Retreat Center “The Camp” in Bridgman, Michigan. This trip is designed to bring Urban children and youth out of their environment and expose them to nature and build healthy relationships.
